100 båtar: Luxe kanalbåt

I nummer 1-2015 ska vi titta lite närmare på kanaler och vilka båtar som är lämpliga att tillbringa lång tid på kanalerna med – det betyder att segelbåtar är mindre lämpliga medan rymliga, ofta nästan fyrkantiga motorbåtar och pråmar passar bättre.

Denna nya konstruktion påminner om de klassiska holländska pråmarna som var de första som fick en liten hjälpmotor. Luxemotor kallades de.

Denna kommer från Branson Boat Design i Storbritannien och finns i en 34 fots och en 40 fots version. Det är ritningar som säljs och man får CAD-filer att fräsa i en CNC-fräs och får otrolig passform.

Komfort är ett ledord och så här beskriver konstruktören själv sina båtar: ”The Luxe-motor class is available at 34 and 40ft. A real little ship combining lots of accomodation within a small size. Easy of handling, lower running costs and reduced intial outlay are some of the benefits to this new design.

Designed specifically for the first time kit builder the Luxe-motor provides a straightforward introduction to ’steel kit’ boat building. The structure has been kept simple with fewer parts; the plating sizes have been kept small for easier handling and the cost low. Smaller workshops can house this size of boat more easily. We have aimed at the person who may be familiar with steel fabrication or boat building in other materials but is hesitant to commit to a large costly 60 footer for a first project.”
